Choosing the best platform for your business.

Are you on the right platforms to find and attract your dream client? There are a lot of social media platforms out there, many you have probably never heard of.

Sure, Facebook is the biggest most well-known platform, but that doesn't mean it will be the most effective for your business. And yes, TikTok is a lot of fun if you like that kind of stuff, but can you be successful in it?

All to often, when I am working with my clients, they want to be on the platform they are most comfortable with. I guess they expect their clients to come find them, to which I have to ask.....

How is that working for you?

I know that sounds a little mean, but I hate to see someone struggling to do their social media only to find it was a waste of their time because their dream clients are not even active where they are posting.

Social media can be a very low-cost way to market your business, that is, if you don't count the time it takes.  The trouble is, I do count the time. It is our most valuable asset.  If you want your time spent well, you need to do a little strategic planning.  You need to understand how the basics work and how you can best leverage it for your business.

That means you have to get out of your comfort zone and go where your dream clients are and then give them what they want.

So what do you do?

If you have been wondering why your following isn't growing or why no one but your bestie ever comments on your posts, I suggest doing a quick audit first.

Have you been following the fundamentals of social media marketing?
  • Posting consistently?
  • Providing value?
  • Engaging with your audience?

If you have said yes to all of those then it may be time to reevaluate your strategy, starting with where you are sharing your posts.

No surprise here!

You have to know who you are trying to reach! Ultimately no marketing strategy is complete without an understanding of who you are marketing to. You will burn out real fast and stay frustrated if you don't.

WHO- Think demographics.
This is marketing 101 for a reason. You easily find out the demographics for users of the main platforms and then match that to your dream client.

WHY -  Why are they on that platform?

Chances are, if they are on YouTube, they are looking to learn something, whereas TikTok leans far more towards entertainment.

Why do you need to know that? Because understanding that with help you with the WHAT.

WHAT do they need from you?
How will you get them to interact with you? Most Instagram users are there because they are visual, they want videos or pictures, and they don't want to read a long caption to understand what it is all about. They won't be interested, but the visual should be eye-catching. Facebook and LinkedIn users, on the other hand, don't mind the occasional text-only posts.

Know your purpose.

Now that you understand where your dream clients are hanging out and why, you can more easily determine how you can create content that will engage them and inspire the actions you are working for.

So what actions do you want them to take?

Have you figured out how social media will support your other marketing efforts?  Are you using this platform for direct sales goals or to build brand awareness and relationships. The more goals you have for social media marketing the more time you have to put into it.

If you have been struggling I recommend selecting one main objective.  Also, I think it is important to note that just because you choose one main objective doesn't mean a secondary objective won't be achieved but it does mean that your time can be used focused on one outcome.  That will make finding marketing success on that platform far more likely.

Which is right for you?

Still not sure where you should be spending your time?  Take a look at these facts and see if you find them helpful?
